"Wherever you are is the entry point" - Kabir

My entry point?  An invitation from my sister, Sara Lewis Holmes in a Facebook post in January of this year "It's a new year of poetry for the Poetry Seven, beginning with the deceptively simple triolet. In 2015, we tackle twelve poetry forms together. You could, too. Just sayin'."

So I jumped in to the world of poetry in a way I had never done before.  From private and free-form to public and structured.  My first glance at the list was daunting...I recognized only three forms, but I'm learning a lot about poetry and have been forced to stretch myself as a writer which feels great.  I've worked with four forms so far:  Triolet, Villanelle, Tanka and Sestina.  None of which I was familiar with; all with their own character.  I like some more than others, but just like with people I can appreciate the unique angle from which they speak to the world.

Over the next few days, I will share each of the poems that have filtered out of my mind and soul since January so that I am "caught up" as it were and then will continue to share my journey as the year progresses.  Perhaps it is fitting that the "theme" of the first poem was transformation/change.

I am truly grateful to my sister and the rest of Poetry Seven for giving me the opportunity to tag along and hone my voice!

January's Form:  Triolet

 Metamorphosis

Metamorphosis
Change occurs from within
Soul-driven sorceress
Metamorphosis
Not spiritual bliss,
Painful process wherein
Metamorphosis
Change occurs from within
